CIO-HIC
Hesperia Hospital is part of the Healthcare Providers group which, since 2006, in coordination with the Emilia Romagna regional government, has been running a specific programme for the control of hospital infections in Thoracic-Cardiac Surgery, General Surgery and Critical Care Departments.
The Hospital Infection Control Committee (HIC) was instituted with the promulgation of the ministerial circular n. 52/1985 (“Combating Hospital Infections”), which establishes the following:
GUIDELINES
- selection and development of strategies for combating infections
- presenting selected strategies to management and staff monitoring and assessing implementation seeking to reduce the number of preventable hospital infections in hospitalised patients and to prevent their onset in medical and paramedical staff operating inside the hospital managing the relevant training of personnel ensuring targeted monitoring as a means of continuously collecting information, analysing data, applying control and assessment measures and monitoring their effectiveness.
THE INSTITUTION OF A TECHNICAL COMMITTEE RESPONSIBLE FOR COMBATING HOSPITAL INFECTIONS WITH THE FOLLOWING TASKS:
- establishing a strategy,
- verifying the application of monitoring and control programmes, as well as their effectiveness,
- managing the cultural and technical training of the personnel.
COMPOSITION:
The committee has designated a small operative group to carry out the specific tasks connected with the programme:
- Analysis Laboratory Manager (microbiologist),
- a nurse appointed to infection control,
- three specially trained nurses.
